Dogs and Licensing

NEW dog?  Or are you NEW to Dunbarton?
Dogs that are new to you (or new to Dunbarton) must be licensed by the time the dog is 4 months old, or, in the case of a dog older than that, when you get the dog (or move here).
Provide us with:
   * Your name and contact info
   * A copy (physical or electronic) of you dog's rabies vaccination certificate (and a copy of the neuter/spay certificate if that information is not on the other form)
   * If your dog is currently licensed in another city/town in NH, then for the discounted "transfer" rate, also provide a copy of your dog's license in that city/town.

EXISTING dog license in Dunbarton?
Dog license renewals are due by April 30th.  (Dog licenses are for May 1 to April 30 per NH State Law.)
If your contact info has changed, or your dog has updated rabies/neuter/spay information, please provide us with that.

FEES when RENEWING dog license(s) by the April 30 deadline:

  • $3.00 - Senior Citizen (age 65+) - $3 for the first dog, regular price for any additional dogs
    • Requires consent for your birthdate to be entered in the secure database so that the rate will auto-populate properly
  • $7.50 per dog that:
    • is less than 7 months old, or
    • has been spayed/neutered and we have that information on file (if we don't then please provide documentation and we'll edit accordingly)
  • $10.00 per dog 7 months old or more that is not spayed/neutered
  • Group discount available for owners of 5 or more dogs

PAYMENTS may be made by any of the following methods:

  • IN PERSON at our office during regular office hours (Mon - Thurs 8am-4pm).  Cash or check.
  • ONLINE at https://www.dunbartonnh.org/home/pages/online-payments .  Please note that this method requires providing the routing and account number of a checking account with check-writing privileges.  (An actual check is printed and deposited at the bank; this is not (yet) an ACH.)
  • DROP-OFF
Our office is closed Fridays but you may address an envelope to "Town Clerk" and drop it off in the main office or via mail slot.
The mail slot is accessible from outside the building.  It is next to the door nearest to the external, free-standing bulletin board.
Include your name, dog name(s) and contact info with payment (and rabies/spayed/neutered update if applicable).
  • MAIL
Similar to drop-off (above).  Address to Dunbarton Town Clerk - which is also the payee for your check.  (Please do not mail cash.)

If paying by drop-off or mail, and you would like the dog license(s) returned to you by mail, please either:
* include a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE)
* increase the amount paid by $1 to cover the cost of mailing
