  1. Jeff Trexler, Space Needs Committee, appeared before the Board and reported that Committee members were indicating that they felt they did not see a need for the Space Needs Committee to remain intact. He would suggest that the Committee be dismissed unless the Selectmen felt there is something special for the Committee to be working on.
    MOTION:
Merton Mann made a motion that the Dunbarton Board of Selectmen dismiss the function and the membership of the Space Needs Committee and note that all the members deserve a real hearty vote of thanks for a job well done over the years and the Selectmen express their appreciation to all the members. The motion was seconded by William Nichols and passed unanimously.
  2. Jeff Trexler and the Selectmen discussed future plans for repairs to the Town Hall.

8:00 PM - General Business

Janice Jelley brought up the following items to the attention of the Board of Selectmen:

  1. She reported that the Town had received a petition regarding the Town accepting Old Fort Estates as a Town Road. Based on the petition she will be scheduling a public hearing on Thursday, October 29, 1998, at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Offices.
  2. Presented a renewal of a permit to sell pistols and revolvers from George Patterson for the Selectmen to sign. Selectmen signed paperwork.
  3. Presented a revised contract from Gold Eagle for the installation of fuel tanks at the Town Garage. The tank will be a 2,000 gallon tank with two compartments, each one being 1,000 gallons. Selectmen signed new revised contract.
  4. Janice Jelley indicated that she had contacted Al Biron, Electrician, regarding the furnace electrical problem. He will be working on it.
  5. News clippings regarding the Public Works Department for the Town of Bow using a new ice melt chemical on a portion of road. The Town of Bow wanted Dunbarton to be aware they would be using it on a portion of the road on Brown Hill in Bow and turning around on Montalona and Robert Rogers Road. Selectmen noted that it was much more expensive than salt.
  6. It was reported that Merton Mann, Selectmen, was the representative for the Board of Selectmen at the School Dedication the previous week.
  7. It was reported that the Board of Selectmen, School Board, and DRA met at the Department of Revenue the previous Wednesday, September 16, 1998, regarding setting the Tax Rate. Merton Mann represented the Selectmen.

8:15 PM - Jan Van de Bogart, Supervisor

Jan Van de Bogart, Supervisor, and Brian Little, Recycling Coordinator, appeared before the Board of Selectmen with the following items:

  1. Discussed winter road maintenance. Noted that the tree near the Thalheimer property could be removed. Had landowner permission to do so because the root is on the Town road.
  2. New Fuel Tanks has been ordered. Highway Department needs to have fuel on hand until the new tanks are installed. After discussion, it was decided that Jan will see that the old tank has 500 gallons delivered.
  3. It was noted for the record that no bids were received from private contractors for winter plowing or sanding.
  4. Problem with unauthorized parking in the Town parking lot in the winter. Causes problem for plows. Al Vaal has stated the Town has his permission to tow away. Suggestion made to put up a sign stating no parking, etc.

8:30 PM - Brian Little, Recycling

  1. Reported that the Recycling Center has accumulated a barrel of copper over the past year which weighs about 150 lbs. Suggested turning the copper in in the near future.
  2. Steel has been taken away and Town received $25/ton.
  3. Septic System can be installed.
  4. Selectmen will speak with road agent regarding getting the grader fixed prior to winter. Will need tires, lights, etc. to be road worthy.
