DUNBARTON HISTORICAL AWARENESS COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2008
AT THE DUNBARTON TOWN OFFICES
PRESENT: Ken Swayze, Donna Dunn, Selectmen’s Representative Les Hammond, Stan Hallinan, Bill and Rebecca Rolke.
Bud Noyes, long-time DHAC Member and Treasurer sadly has passed away. Our thoughts are with Betty Ann Noyes and the Noyes family. Bud was a surviving member of the Dunbarton History Committee, which was formed to edit Alice Hadley’s history and genealogy of Dunbarton; later published as Where the Winds Blow Free. He helped with the creation of historical bicycle tours of town, and also assisted with writing a children’s book, A Tale of Dunbarton
His own history of Dunbarton, Where Settlers’ Feet Have Trod , A Pictorial History of Dunbarton’s Old Homes and Structures was written with the assistance of the DHAC. Bud was always researching town history, and at the time of his death, was working on a history of the portion of Hooksett which was originally part of Dunbarton until the early 1820’s.
Bud will certainly be missed!
COBBLER SHOP: Donna brought in a story board she has made about the Cobbler Shop Restoration Project. There are pictures and captions to describe the ongoing investigations into the past, and the current status of the project. So far, Donna has raised over $3,000 for the restoration effort. She wore many hats at her booth on Old Home Day, and raised funds for several committees.
DVD PROJECT: The Committee discussed the possibilities for the historical DVD the DHAC plans to produce. This will be something to be shown to schoolchildren and new teachers at the Elementary School, to acquaint them with the town’s history. In addition to early town history, the DVD will feature anecdotes of life in town as experienced by current and former residents. Several people were mentioned as possible interviewees.
The Committee will purchase a voice recorder to capture residents’ voices. Hopefully we can get started recording soon.
The Library of Congress has several articles online about the Veterans Stories project. We may get some ideas for our interviews from these articles.
NEXT MEETING: Monday, October 27, 2008, at 7:30 pm, at the Dunbarton Town Offices.
Respectfully submitted,
Rebecca Rolke
Chair and Secretary
