DUNBARTON HISTORICAL AWARENESS COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2008
AT THE DUNBARTON TOWN OFFICES
PRESENT: Stan Hallinan, Donna Dunn, Les Hammond, Bill Rolke, Rebecca Rolke.
Guests: Dunbarton residents Arline Little, Tiffany Dodd, and Jody Davies.
COBBLER SHOP: Donna recently hosted an event at the shop for a group of Dunbarton home school students. Among many activities, the children screened dirt looking for artifacts, and found wood, leather and bug casings. Interest was high as the students learned about this slice of Dunbarton history.
At tonight’s meeting, discussion ensued regarding developing a curriculum around the cobbler shop. Donna has spoken with Goffstown reporter Carole Huxel about this possibility.
HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS: Tiffany Dodd and Jody Davies, who are part of this group, described about five families who participate in various educational activities. They are enthusiastic about including the cobbler shop as a project next year.
NOYES COLLECTION: The space above the Library was further discussed as a potential site for the collection. It is hoped that the papers will be moved before the snow flies.
DUNBARTON TELEPHONE COMPANY: Arline Little was a telephone operator in town several years ago, and possesses a wealth of information about the history of the service. She spoke of a book written by Dick Violette about the history of the Hopkinton Telephone Company, and other independent companies, including the Dunbarton Telephone Company.
DUNBARTON TREASURER’S BOOK: Arline brought this historic town artifact, which is in need of restoration. Donna took temporary possession, and will bring the book to Linda Peters, to store in the town vault.
NEXT MEETING: Monday, January 26, 2009, at 7:30 p.m.; at the Dunbarton Town Offices.
Respectfully submitted,
Rebecca Rolke
Chair and Secretary
