Update on rental property

Scot Warriner was present to report on the house and outbuildings he is renting.  Scott stated that he has installed a new water heater and has kept the roofs shoveled.  He also voiced concerns regarding the actions of some hunters and snowmobile riders.  Installation of a fence across from the house should be considered in the spring.  Snowmobile issues should be shared with the Bow Pioneers.

The Conservation Commission (CC) informed Scott that one or more public hearings will be held in 2003 to discuss long term plans for the property.

NEW BUSINESS:

Scout camping in the Kimball Pond Conservation Area

Bill Frasca spoke to members present regarding a site the local troop has used east of the northern end of the pond.  He expressed his hope that the scouts could construct benches, latrines, a fire pit, etc. which would be left intact at the site.  The consensus of the commission is that if scout camping is allowed in the future that it should be of the “leave no trace” type.  The commission does hope to work with the scouts as it does support scouting and has several projects where their help could be invaluable.

New Bow Times column

The Bow CC has asked if our commission and Hopkinton’s would like to join them in submitting articles for a 500 word conservation column.  The Bow Times has stated that “editorializing” would not be allowed.  The commission will make a decision after having “editorializing” defined.
